Begin with a conversation
There is no single checklist score that decides whether someone can live alone. Ask how your parents feel about home, what is working, and where they would welcome support.
Notice changing routines
Talk about meals, household tasks, getting out, and being able to contact help. Specific examples are more useful than broad assumptions about age.
Build a support plan together
Discuss who can check in, what help your parents would accept, and how to respond if plans change. Bring new health or functioning concerns to a qualified healthcare professional.
Respect choice and revisit the plan
A plan can start small. Agree on a next conversation and make room for your parents to change their preferences as circumstances evolve.
